My name is Jeff White. I'm the research entomologist of bed bug central and the host of bed bug TV, bedbugcentral.com. I have no idea how I got into bugs and bed bugs, and here I am, six years later, having a lot of fun working with bed bugs. I will be talking to you about pest control. The last we all want, is termites eating our investment. Are they inside your house? Are they chewing on the wood that makes up your house? It's a great question and one of the most difficult question that we, from the pest control industry, struggle with. Identifying termites is a very difficult task. They lead very cryptic lifestyles, meaning they hide very well and they are very difficult to see. One group of termites is what we call subterranean termites. These are termites that are typically associated with northern states, make colonies outside of the home, in the ground. Those colonies travel underneath the ground, to the house, eat the wood and then go back to the colony. The other group of termites that we have, are formosan or drywood termites. Those are termites that can actually make their colonies inside the walls of the house. Again, very difficult to identify, because they never have to leave the wall and obviously, we can't see into the wall. So how do you identify these things? One of the easiest ways, and one of the ways most people find out they have termites in their house, is by seeing what we call swarmers. Depending on the termite species, they are going to reproduce and try to spread their colonies at different times in the year. So what people will all of a sudden see, are termites coming out of say, an opening around their sliding glass door in the house. All of a sudden they will see these winged termites, flying all over the place. That's an indication that you might have a termite colony, somewhere associated with that home. A lot of times, that's how people find out that they have termites. The other ways are detection systems. Pest control companies can install baiting systems around the house. The termites will chew on the wood inside these baiting systems and give us an indication that there might be termites, somewhere associated with the home. Beyond that, when it comes to subterranean termites, they typically will make mud tubes up the side of the construction. So if you go out and walk around your house, and you see small dry tubes going up the bottom of the foundation to the home, that's probably a termite tube from a subterranean termite. It protects them from the dry air and keeps them moist inside that tube. If you see these tubes, contact a pest control company to identify if it is, in fact, a termite tube. In terms of the drywood termites that live in the wall, you may see a hole where these termites are going into that wall and then you'll see frass or fecal material just below that hole in the wall. Again, very tough for a home owner to identify. If you think you have a problem, you may want to contact a pest control company to identify the situation. So identifying termites is difficult, keep your eyes open and if you're concerned about it, you may want to consider a baiting system to help you identify a problem as early on as possible.

Mariners Pest Control was by far the best termite company I have used.from start to finish there is not a thing I can complain about. They are very knowledgeable and took care of my termite problem just as they had explained to me. Their prices were fraction of what other companies quoted.what more could I ask for? Services: Termite inspection, Termite extermination, General pest inspection

After discovering rotted wood on my porch, I called Mariners. I wanted to replace the wood in question. The inspector, Shawn, said that the damage I pointed to was not from termites but from wood rotted by water over the years. He suggested that repair could probably be done more cheaply by a handyman. Since I wanted someone professional to do the work, I asked him to inspect the whole house.

He pointed to damage in several places, some caused by termites and some by water over time. I agreed to have them do all the work, including killing any termites they found in the process. They began work a couple of weeks later, not only replacing and painting the damaged wood but also pulling up roofing tiles and paper and adding preventative chemicals in my attic. They were efficient, professional and, I thought, reasonably priced considering the wood, paint and 8 hours it took two men to complete the job.

Do NOT do business with them. VERY unprofessional. Douglas inspected our house for termite and wood replacement. He missed 2 pieces of wood, and when we found it, he refused to replace it when he was the one that missed it. There are still termite droppings in our bathroom and random places throughout the house. Definitely do NOT recommend. Total rip off.

This company is a fraud! They told me I needed a spray treatment in my attic for termites. They wanted to charge me 1000$ to get it passed so I could sell my home. I called Gallant pest control for a second opinion, and Anthony the tech said there wasn't any evidence of termites at all, and that my house was cleared to sell. It went from costing me 1000$, to 75$. Mariners is a total scam artist. Mariners tech hung up on me when I started questioning his diagnosis.

When I called to talk to Nathan the owner, he avoided all three calls of mine. This is a joke! I would totally recommend Gallant. I've already let Anthony know he will be getting my business when I buy my new house.

Kudos to Mariners. Technician came out promptly during lockdown to honor contract and treat an active termite infestation inside my house. Practiced social distancing during time in my home and effectively treated the problem area. Would have given 5 stars but receptionist would not set an appointment when I called the office, saying she could not say when they could come out. Promised to call back, but did not do so. After waiting a while I went on line and set up an appointment as a new client for the following week. After that everything was 5 star service!

I recently hired Mariners Pest Control, Inc. after a very competitive bid and inspection process. I had bids/inspections from four different companies. In my case cost was not the deciding factor. I narrowed my decision down to two companies and Mariners got the bid based on detailed wood mitigation and repair. They met my needed start date and assured me the job would be completed in two days (Friday/Saturday). Shawn Mallette (Mariners Field Representative) delivered on his promise.

The crew showed up on time and immediately went about their work. I have a two story home and was amazed at how efficient they performed on some of the second story work. They did exactly what they said they would do in the prescribed time line. Their on site foreman (Nefi) was an absolute pleasure to work with. I recently retired from one of our class 1 railroads after forty years and dealt with hundreds of contractors during my career so I know what I'm talking about.

My experience with Mariners was a 10 out of 10. They worked safely, maintained an orderly work area, and properly cleaned up after the job's completion. Last but certainly not least they respected our property and responded to some of the minor things we pointed out.

They have great customer and technical service! The inspector who inspected the property was very knowledgeable and did not use high sales tactics. The technician was attentive and he knew what he was doing. He said he has been in the business for more than 20 years. I was extremely happy when I knew that my house was not under some new comers hand. Overall, was one of the best company I worked with. Thanks and keep it up.

When I hired Mariners several years ago to provide termite service for my primary residence and a rental home, I was impressed by their attention to detail responsiveness and proactive nature. For the past several years I've had Mariner's under contract as the primary pest control service provider for my residence. Over the years, I've noticed a gradual decline in the quality of service and attentiveness provided by Mariners.

My most recent experience included not removing droppings from areas that they treated, failing to inspect the crawl space at my residence, and completely missing a significant termite infestation in the garage. Anything that required the use of the ladder, a mirror or would get their clothes dirty was simply ignored. Shawn, the Operations Manager for Mariners, came out and conducted a thorough and professional reassessment of my property.

Within a week, his crew came out and did a fine job treating what Shawn had identified. Five months later, I noticed termite droppings on my back porch. I called Mariners and scheduled an appointment for the following Saturday (Thanksgiving weekend). When they didn't show in the promised window, I called the office, but got no response. When I called the office Monday morning to discuss the issue with the owner or manager, I was told that they were out, but I would get a call back (not received as of Monday, close of business).

Unorganized and unprofessional. Had an inspection scheduled for Tuesday 11/7/2018 for 9 am. Drove one hour to the location and made sure I was puntual and respectful of this company's time. Unfortunately they didn't have the same attitude. Never showed up. No call no show. Called them two times. They told me they would call me back. Never called be back. Sat there for 4 hours waiting for them and then just decided to leave.

Guess I'll hire someone else. I think everyone else should too. (Started reading their other bad reviews on yelp and I just realized that this is an ongoing issue with this company!) FYI

They place the fear of god in the typical homeowner. Paying their Field techs 3 x the industry standard to upsell the job. BBB wont touch them. Complants of poor work and addressing problems. Below industry standard for quality.
